Monkeypox On the Rise! CDC Reveals '6 Cases Surge in June': Mostly in Northern and Central Regions

Reported 12 months ago

CDC spokesperson, Tseng Shu-Hui, announced on June 27, 2024, that along with the surge in respiratory diseases, there has been a sudden increase in domestic monkeypox cases in June. The CDC disclosed that these 6 cases are all male Taiwanese nationals, with 4 in the northern region and 2 in the central region, aged between their 20s and 30s. Tseng Shu-Hui emphasized the rising trend in the epidemic and reminded that vaccination is the best preventive measure, with full vaccination offering over 90% protection. Despite a decline in local monkeypox cases earlier this year, June saw an unexpected surge, with spread observed in all regions, indicating ongoing community transmission risk. Tseng Shu-Hui highlighted the importance of vaccination due to the virus's 21-day incubation period and early transmission potential before symptoms appear, especially for high-risk individuals or those with previous risky behaviors or sexual history, as completing 2 doses of the vaccine provides substantial protection.
