Moody's has indicated that the Eaton Fire in central Los Angeles County poses a potential credit risk to Southern California Edison, which operates in the affected area. Despite the lack of a confirmed cause for the fire, which has burned over 14,000 acres since January 7, lawsuits have emerged claiming SCE's equipment may have ignited the blaze. Moody's states that SCE's credit could be protected by a state wildfire fund, but this could change if evidence suggests SCE's infrastructure caused the fire, making it more susceptible to legal challenges.
