More Than Five Appeals in the Compensation Case for Typhoon Victims of Lincoln County Result in 12 Families Receiving 12.94 Million in Damages

Reported about 1 year ago

Following the collapse of Lincoln County in Xizhi District, New Taipei City, during Typhoon Winnie 27 years ago, which resulted in 28 deaths and left hundreds homeless, 230 affected households sought joint compensation from developer Li Zongxian and architect Lu Zhengyao. After multiple appeals back and forth, with over 200 households reaching settlements with the companies involved, a court ruled in favor of 12 families, awarding a total of over 12.94 million in damages. The plaintiffs argued that the developers knowingly violated building regulations, leading to the collapse of the community during the typhoon, and should be held jointly liable for the damages.
