Reported about 1 year ago
On July 3 in New Taipei City, a woman surnamed Jian (34 years old) allegedly drowned her 9-year-old and 10-year-old daughters in Bitan after feeling estranged from her in-laws due to differences in lifestyle and language barriers. Following the tragic incident, the woman attempted suicide unsuccessfully before reporting to the authorities the next day, leading to her arrest for murder. Although the judge recognized her potential flight risk, she was detained without restriction, as there was no evidence tampering suspicion. The woman, who had been residing in Hunan, China with her husband for years before moving back to Taiwan, experienced mounting resentment towards her in-laws and cultural clashes, ultimately culminating in the deadly confrontation with her children.
