A 20-year-old woman surnamed Qiu in New Taipei City severely injured her newborn son due to long-standing conflict with her mother-in-law, even causing brain damage by throwing the infant onto the bed. The Supreme Court recently upheld the sentence of 2 years and 10 months in prison for Qiu, ruling her actions as heinous. Qiu, a full-time housewife living with her mother-in-law, faced substantial pressure from the strained relationship, resulting in the abuse of her infant son. Despite claiming postpartum depression and seeking probation, the court denied her appeal, citing delayed medical treatment and lack of grounds for leniency.
