Motorcycle Suspected of Arson, Front Storage Box Burned Down Narrowly Affecting Store

Reported 11 months ago

On the first day of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, a motorcycle parked on the roadside in Xindian District, New Taipei City was found with its front storage box burned with a hole that affected the oil pipe and main line. A nearby shop discovered a pack of cigarettes not belonging to the owner, suspecting someone may have caused the fire by throwing cigarette butts, leading to damage upon which the owner filed a complaint. With the motorcycle's front storage box burned and parts melting, the maintenance costs may exceed the value of the bike, while experts doubt the possibility of a spontaneous combustion. The owner typically kept a plastic bag inside the storage box, raising concerns that a cigarette butt, if it came into contact with the bag, could trigger a fire. The owner commutes to Yonghe for work and now has to rely on public transportation, hoping for accountability regarding the suspicious incident.
