On June 25, 2024, the black curtain used to cover Mount Fuji was torn open by someone with tools at 4:17 a.m. In late May, a blackout cloth was erected in front of LAWSON in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi Prefecture to block the view of Mount Fuji from tourist photos. However, tourists have been poking small holes in the curtain to take pictures, and recently, a 10cm gap was found, believed to be deliberate damage by someone using tools. The local government plans to use stronger fabric for the curtain in the future to prevent further incidents.
