Mountains of Garbage Burning like Biochemical Weapons

Reported 11 months ago

According to the report on June 8, 2024, the temporary storage of household garbage in various regions of Taiwan, such as Taoyuan, Tainan, Hsinchu, Pingtung, Nantou, and Yunlin, has resulted in the piling up of garbage mountains due to lacking handling capacity or central dispatching failures, causing issues like foul odors, pollution, and contaminated water, resembling ticking time bombs. Termed as 'active volcanoes' prone to burning, the situation is likened to a 'local tumor.' The continued burning of these landfills releases thick smoke and intense odors, affecting nearby residents significantly. The situation is described as terrifying, akin to a biochemical weapon. Various proactive measures are being undertaken to mitigate the risks, such as enhanced monitoring systems, strengthening firefighting measures, and promoting waste-to-energy processes.
