MTN, Africa's largest mobile operator, is looking into partnerships with low-Earth-orbit satellite providers to enhance internet access for rural and remote customers. Group CEO Ralph Mupita noted that satellite internet, like that offered by Starlink, can provide high-speed connectivity in areas underserved by traditional telecommunications infrastructure. MTN is conducting proof of concepts with several satellite operators and aims to ensure that LEO satellite firms are subject to the same regulatory requirements as terrestrial operators.
