On June 23, 2024, in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia, unidentified armed individuals launched terrorist attacks targeting three churches and a police outpost, resulting in at least 15 police officers, an Orthodox priest, and several civilians dead. After the attacks, flames and thick smoke billowed from the churches. The Republic of Dagestan, established in 1921, suffered from the coordinated attacks in its capital Mahachkala and the second-largest city, Derbent, with gunshots fired at Orthodox and Jewish churches and a police outpost, leading to casualties and injuries. The leader of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, confirmed the attacks as terrorism and stated that six attackers were neutralized, with investigations ongoing.
