Music labels accuse AI companies Suno, Udio of copyright infringement in the US

Reported 11 months ago

Major music labels Sony Music, Universal Music Group, and Warner Records have filed lawsuits against artificial intelligence companies Suno and Udio, alleging mass copyright infringement. The lawsuits claim that Suno and Udio used the labels' recordings without permission to train AI systems to generate music that competes with human artists' work. Suno and Udio are accused of copying numerous songs, and the labels are seeking damages for each song copied. This marks the first legal action against music-generating AI, following previous cases related to text-based AI models. Suno and Udio have raised significant funding this year for their AI music systems.
