The study interviewed 170 children aged 3 to 5 and found that girls demonstrated a strong emphasis on physical appearance from a young age, with preferences for fancy outfits and appearance-related occupations. This focus on beauty was notably more significant in girls compared to boys, indicating gender differences in valuing appearance that likely start in preschool. The study suggests the importance of addressing harmful societal influences and promoting diverse and positive images and toys to help children develop healthier values and self-perceptions from an early age.
