On July 1, 2024, the Myanmar military government arrested 11 individuals, including 1 Japanese citizen, for allegedly selling white rice at inflated prices. Among those arrested were high-ranking personnel from a chain supermarket Aeon Orange, a joint venture between Japanese retailer AEON and Myanmar's Creation Myanmar. The arrests were part of efforts to curb inflation amidst the country's ongoing turmoil following the military coup in February 2021, leading to widespread poverty and civil unrest.
