In Washington state, a kinkajou, a cute little animal resembling a bear and a monkey, was sighted at a highway rest stop climbing on a wooden post, prompting transportation officials to rescue it and take it to a zoo for examination. The kinkajou, native to rainforests from southern Mexico to Brazil, is not endangered but often targeted by poachers for its fur and illegally trafficked as pets. The zoo will care for the young kinkajou until a suitable permanent home is found.
