N. Korea Sends 'Trash Balloons' to S. Korea, Revealing dire Economic Conditions - S. Korean Media: Kim Jong-Un's Education Books Also Cut Up and Sent

Reported about 1 year ago

On June 24, 2024, balloons from North Korea drifting towards South Korea were found to contain trash and excrement; analysis by South Korea's Unification Ministry revealed parasites from the composted garbage, reflecting North Korea's harsh living conditions, including torn pages of Kim Jong-Un's education documents mixed in the trash. Parasites such as roundworms were found in the soil contaminated with waste, likely from human feces, but the risk of soil contamination and disease was deemed low. Among the trash were remnants of clothing aid from South Korean companies since 2000, with the Ministry interpreting North Korea's display of discontent by cutting and sending these items. North Korea has attempted to conceal its poor living conditions by manufacturing large waste items and removing labels to prevent product information leakage.
