In Nantou County, a man named Ma intended to dig water storage tank in the riverbed and found a 1.7-ton red cypress driftwood, which he illegally transported to his workplace. Planning to cut it for profit, he got reported and fined instead of making the expected profit of over 130,000 NTD. Ma was fined 13,000 NTD for the offense of seizing the driftwood, with the court ordering the valuable driftwood to be returned to the Forestry Bureau in Nantou. Ma admitted his intention to profit from the driftwood and was remorseful, leading to the verdict. The case can still be appealed.
