To improve pedestrian safety, Nantou County introduced the first technology-enabled enforcement device that penalizes vehicles for not stopping for pedestrians in Puli in February and added three more enforcement spots in July. Following Dragon Boat Festival holidays, from the 11th to the 13th, a countywide crackdown on not stopping for pedestrians will take place with priority on 24 hazardous intersections. Last year, pedestrian fatalities from traffic accidents in Taiwan reached 380, with 119 deaths in the first three months of this year, prompting increased enforcement. Violations such as failure to yield to pedestrians can result in fines up to NT$6,000 for cars and NT$1,200 for motorcycles, potentially rising to NT$7,200 for violations involving visually impaired pedestrians. Road safety violations at intersections and pedestrian crossings will be strictly enforced to ensure pedestrian rights and safety.
