A pair of pistols belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte were sold at an auction on July 7, 2024, for approximately 5.938 million NTD. It is said that Napoleon once intended to use these pistols to commit suicide. The pistols were made by Parisian gunsmith Louis-Marin Gosset and feature Napoleon's portrait. These pistols were originally estimated to be sold for 1.2 to 1.5 million euros, but were finally sold for 1.69 million euros. The French government has recently classified these pistols as national treasures, prohibiting their export, but they can still make an offer to purchase them within 30 months from the auction winner.
