National Defense Chief Addresses Concerns on Desertion During War, Incorporates Response Into Training

During a report on the 'Han Kuang Exercise 40' at the Legislative Yuan on June 26, General Mei Chia-shu, Chief of the General Staff, stated that desertion during wartime is inevitable and will be addressed by incorporating such scenarios into the exercise, allowing continuous practice based on consensus and foundations. In response to KMT Legislator Weng Hsiao-ling's query on handling soldiers fleeing or showing insubordination during the exercise, General Mei emphasized the need to prepare for such situations by involving political warfare personnel in training to ensure troops are prepared. Additionally, the Ministry of Justice's Legal Department mentioned that temporary military courts will be convened during the exercise for trial purposes.
