National Security Law Violators Enjoying Retirement Benefits While Outstanding Debts Remain Unpaid

Reported 12 months ago

On July 2, 2024, Prosecutor General Lu Chih-ming convened a meeting with relevant units to discuss the retrieval of retirement benefits from dishonorable military retirees involved in cases related to sedition, foreign aggression, and the national security law. Despite outstanding debts totaling over 50.8 million NT dollars that should have been retrieved from 15 retirees, more than 80% remains unpaid. Efforts are being made to strengthen auditing and implement a more effective retrieval process, with some cases already being transferred for execution by the Ministry of Justice. Measures include regular checks on retirees' eligibility to receive benefits and coordination among defense authorities and legal institutions to ensure the proper handling of the cases.
