The National Taiwan Office recently announced intentions to punish 'Taiwan independence advocates,' issuing new 22 articles with sentencing standards and notably harsh punishment of the death penalty. DPP legislator Lin Chu-yin pointed out that this week the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee of the Legislative Yuan is scheduled to review the agenda 'Assist Taiwan Joining the United Nations,' with KMT legislator Ma Wen-chun serving as the committee chair. Lin criticized, questioning if Ma Wen-chun will be 'absent at trial' and labeled a 'Taiwan independence advocate' by China, or will she adjust the agenda for Thursday's meeting. This comes after China announced strict penalties for 'Taiwan independence activities,' including advocating for Taiwan's participation in international organizations, which the CCP considers acts of 'splitting the country.'
