Amid complaints of the current recall threshold being too low, Nationalist Party (KMT) legislator Hsu Yu-chen proposed an amendment to require recall votes to exceed the initial votes won by the recalled person. The party aims to reach consensus on this amendment, planning at least one public hearing and targeting completion of the three readings by the end of the year. The amendment is seen as a move to protect KMT legislators from possible recalls initiated by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). The adjustment seeks to strike a balance between single-district and multi-district elections, with the KMT emphasizing the importance of recall votes surpassing initial election votes for legitimacy.
