On July 5, 2024, Zheng Wen-Can, Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, was detained by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors’ Office under the Anti-Corruption Act due to alleged involvement in land alteration cases during his tenure as Mayor of Taoyuan. Nationalist Party Councilor Lin Tao, who had been diligently investigating Zheng's corruption cases, raised concerns on Facebook questioning President Tsai Ing-wen's awareness of these issues when appointing Zheng as chairman. Lin Tao emphasized the need for transparency and accountability within the government, urging a thorough investigation into any wrongdoings under the Democratic Progressive Party's governance.
