Nationalist Party Proposes Extension of Nuclear Power Plant Operations, Key Lies with Democratic Progressive Party

Reported 12 months ago

Ko Chih-en revealed that the draft proposal to loosen regulations on nuclear power plant license renewals is set for review in the committee next Wednesday. The Nationalist Party has introduced legislation for the 'extension of nuclear energy operations' in response to the closure of reactor 1 at the Jinshan Nuclear Power Plant. The proposed amendments aim to relax the 5-year deadline requirement and allow continued operation upon confirmation of safety by authorities. Ko emphasized that while the Nationalist Party reflects public and business needs, the decision still rests with the Democratic Progressive Party in power. Even if the legislation passes, the decision to restart nuclear energy plants ultimately lies with the ruling party.
