Nationalist Party's Proposal for Amendment to Outlying Islands Development Act Blocked by Green Camp - Eric Chu: KMT Legislators All Want In-depth Discussion

Reported about 1 year ago

Reported on July 6, 2024, the Nationalist Party legislators Chen Xuesheng and Chen Yuzhen proposed amending the Outlying Islands Development Act, including a controversial provision to allow Chinese businesses to participate in major construction projects organized by the government on outlying islands. During a legislative session, the Democratic Progressive Party proposed returning the proposal to the committee, a move that was not objected to by the Nationalist Party. In response, Nationalist Party Chairman Eric Chu stated that all party members respect democratic procedures and hope for thorough discussions to reach a consensus. While addressing amendments to the Outlying Islands Development Act and the consideration of amendments to the Electoral Recall Law in the Internal Affairs Committee on Monday, the Nationalist Party did not raise the proposed amendments by legislator Hsu Yuzhen to raise the recall threshold. Chu emphasized the importance of democratic procedures and open discussions in contrast to the practices of the Democratic Progressive Party. He expressed the party's commitment to consensus-building in the legislative process.
