Navy Seaman Jumps Overboard from Ming Chuan Ship, Company Security Discovers and Reports

On June 17, 2024, at 3:18 am, a 24-year-old seaman from the Navy vessel Ming Chuan, suspected of not adapting to onboard life, jumped overboard as the ship left Keelung Harbor late on the 16th. He swam to Heping Island Park, sought help ashore, and was discovered by nearby company security guards who promptly alerted authorities. Fortunately, the man was unharmed, and the Keelung Military Police and fleet personnel are now investigating. The seaman, wearing a life jacket, jumped overboard as the ship left the harbor, swam to Heping Island seeking help. It was revealed that he jumped ship due to not wanting to continue with military service, and the Navy headquarters intends to further interview him before deciding on his future service.
