A 24-year-old soldier named Ou, serving on the Navy ship Ming Chuan, jumped overboard at night while the ship was leaving Keelung Harbor, swam to Heping Island Park, and sought help from a nearby shipyard. Authorities rescued him and found no life-threatening injuries after medical treatment. Ou mentioned that he was not adapting well to life on the ship and did not want to be a soldier. Further investigation by the naval troops and police is underway to clarify the incident.
