NCC Reminds Public to Check Phones as 3G Network Shuts Down Today

Reported 12 months ago

The 3G network will be shut down today, affecting an estimated 530,000 users. The National Communications Commission (NCC) is reminding people to check if their phones and SIM cards support 4G voice (VoLTE) to ensure communication rights, as failure to do so may result in the inability to make emergency calls. To comply with government energy-saving policies, the three major telecom companies will close the 3G network starting June 30th. NCC has been overseeing user rights protection plans since March, urging companies to enhance communication and provide replacement phone solutions. Following the shutdown, it is estimated that over 2.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity will be saved annually, reducing around 142,000 tons of carbon emissions.
