Netanyahu Rejects Biden's Proposal for Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

Reported 8 months ago

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stated in an interview on June 23 that while he is open to Hamas releasing some hostages, he will not accept any ceasefire agreement that requires Israel to stop the Gaza conflict. Despite U.S. claims that Israel's negotiation proposal would be the main path to a ceasefire, Netanyahu and other Israeli officials have vowed to continue the war until Hamas is eliminated, rejecting Biden's ceasefire proposal. Netanyahu also rejected the idea of Palestinian Authority governing Gaza in place of Hamas, indicating Israel's intentions to effectively occupy Gaza. Israeli forces are soon expected to deploy to the northern border for defense purposes, with Netanyahu prioritizing staying in power over national interests, according to analysis and recent ICJ rulings criticizing Israel's actions in Gaza.
