Reported 7 months ago

As reported by Sanli News Network on June 13, 2024 at 10:30 PM, the Health Promotion Administration warned about the potential sixth wave of locally transmitted Omicron cases in Taiwan, with a rise in mild to severe cases over the past month. Dr. Zhang Hong, an ENT specialist, highlighted an increase in Covid patients showing symptoms like sore throat, difficulty swallowing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, coughing, and loss of smell. He noted that the spread may be linked to the KP.2 mutation, which is 1.2 times more transmissible than the previous JN.1 variant and has rapidly increased in infection rates in the U.S. from March to May. Vigilance in public places, mask-wearing, hand hygiene, immediate medical consultation for fever or body aches, and fast Covid screening were advised to manage the potential peak in cases forecasted for August or September.
