A new father in his twenties from New Taipei City, referred to as Ah Zhi, has been sued for child abuse after his 3-month-old son showed symptoms of severe head injury leading to brain swelling and internal bleeding, resulting in a lifelong blindness due to removal of his vitreous body. Ah Zhi, who had to take care of his son due to his wife's postpartum depression, initially denied causing intentional harm, claiming accidents like falling and slipping occurred. However, based on medical evidence, prosecutors believe he subjected the infant to severe abuse. His wife, although reported, was not charged due to lack of evidence showing her involvement.
