New Japanese Banknotes Face Issues with Vending Machines! Less than 30% Accept New Bills

Reported about 1 year ago

Japan issued new banknotes on July 3, with some people queuing for five hours to get them. However, many restaurants are now facing challenges as their automatic ordering machines are not equipped to accept the new bills, forcing them to handle the new currency manually. Less than 30% of roadside vending machines currently accept the new bills, with businesses needing to invest in device upgrades at costs around 40,000 NT dollars each. Despite the high cash usage in Japan, the transition to the new bills is causing delays and inconveniences in daily transactions, especially for establishments relying heavily on cash payments.
