New Rental Electricity Fee Regulations to Be Implemented on July 15th, Landlords Beware of Overcharging Penalties

Reported about 1 year ago

Starting from July 15, 2024, a new regulation on rental electricity fees will be implemented in Taiwan. The Ministry of the Interior announced that landlords must not overcharge electricity fees. Those who still violate the regulations may face fines of up to 500,000 Taiwan dollars. The new system aims to protect tenants' rights, ensure fair and transparent collection of electricity fees, and promote information transparency. Landlords are required to provide electricity fee information, and tenants can consult Taiwan Power Company for details. The new regulations will apply to new lease agreements signed after the effective date, without retroactive effect, but parties can agree otherwise if desired.
