New Study Finds Hope for COVID-19 Patients: Treatment for Persistent Breathing Difficulties and Fatigue

Reported 8 months ago

A breakthrough study conducted by the Department of Pulmonology at Taoyuan Hospital and the Pulmonology Department of Taipei Veterans General Hospital revealed a new mechanism for the persistent breathing difficulties and fatigue experienced by COVID-19 patients. The study, led by Dr. Luo Bojun from Taoyuan Hospital's Pulmonology Department, identified a correlation between static lung hyperinflation, small airway dysfunction, and the ongoing respiratory symptoms in COVID-19 patients. The results suggest that over 50% of COVID-19 patients continue to suffer from lung hyperinflation and small airway damage even after eight months of recovery, leading to breathing difficulties and fatigue. This research provides a new direction for future COVID-19 treatments, highlighting the potential long-term effects of lung hyperinflation on patients, and offers a possibility for treating small airway dysfunction to alleviate symptoms. Further clinical studies will be needed to confirm the effectiveness of such treatments.
