During a query session at the New Taipei City Council, Councilor Peng Jia-yun raised concerns about the alarming 91.05% increase in suspected scammers aged 12 to 18 in New Taipei, with a 25.83% rise in teen fraud victims from 2022 to 2023. She emphasized the need for cross-departmental improvements to address the issue, especially targeting scams involving children under 12. Mayor Hou You-yi responded by stating that the proportion of teenage scammers had significantly dropped in the first half of this year. The city government is actively collaborating with various departments to combat fraud and educate the public to prevent youths from falling into scam traps.
