A report by Minzhu News on June 14, 2024 details a case in New Taipei City where a citizen was fined for keeping a total of 81 cats and dogs in cramped conditions on a rooftop addition without proper microchipping, spaying/neutering, or regular rabies vaccinations, leading to severe odors affecting nearby residents. Despite multiple warnings from local authorities and failure to improve the living conditions for the animals, the owner accumulated fines totaling NT$482,500 for violating animal protection laws and spreading disease. Authorities advised pet owners to assess their caregiving abilities and not exceed their capacity to avoid disturbances to neighbors and legal repercussions.
