On June 17, 2024, the New Taipei Mayor Ho Yu-yi Recall Self-Help Association lodged a complaint with the Northern District Prosecutor's Office accusing a male district chief surnamed Wang of seizing recall petitions. The association aimed to recall Mayor Ho for running for president last year, initiating a recall petition. However, over 18,000 petition forms were allegedly taken by Wang, who threatened to burn them. The association suspended the recall, and members filed a complaint to ensure the safety of citizens' information. Wang claimed innocence, stating he would return the petitions and denying accusations of threats and sequestering. The dispute escalated, with the association alleging harassment and Wang asserting internal disagreements as the reason for the recall's halt.
