On June 17th, the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau uncovered an illegal leather dyeing factory in Taishan District that was polluting Da-Keng Creek with wastewater. The factory was found to be operating without the required factory registration certificate and environmental permit while engaging in leather and fur processing activities, violating air pollution and water pollution control laws. The bureau immediately ordered the factory to cease operations and may impose fines of up to NT$20 million. The polluted creek is a significant recreational area for residents, and the intentional discharge of colored wastewater has severely impacted the local community and ecology.
