New Taipei Double-Knife Man Threatens Neighbors for Being Too Noisy at New Year's Eve Gathering, Receives 4 Years and 10 Months Sentence

Reported 9 months ago

A 60-year-old man surnamed Gao from Shulin District, New Taipei City, attacked his neighbors with knives on New Year's Eve last year because he found their gathering to be too noisy. As a result, a family of four was severely injured, with one of them even on the brink of death. The Supreme Court considered Gao's long-term accumulated stress as a reason for leniency, sentencing him to 4 years and 10 months in prison for four counts of attempted murder. Gao had reported himself after the incident and has since compensated the victims with 1.2 million New Taiwan Dollars. The ruling was finalized after the Supreme Court rejected the prosecutor's appeal.
