A man surnamed Gao in his twenties fired 16 shots at a private club in Xindian, New Taipei City, and surrendered to the police afterwards, citing a simple revenge motive due to a previous altercation with the club. However, the police doubted his explanation as being too light, leading to his detention and denial of visitation rights by the Taipei District Court. The club, allegedly belonging to the Tiandao Alliance, refuted Gao's claims of being assaulted by them before the shooting incident. Gao was found in possession of a deceased friend's gun and borrowing a motorcycle from his girlfriend for the crime. He was charged with violating firearms control laws and intimidation, and is currently awaiting trial.
