Reported about 1 year ago
A woman surnamed Hsu from New Taipei, overwhelmed by divorce and financial difficulties, strangled and suffocated her son in October 2022 due to suicidal thoughts, with the intention of taking their lives together. While the National Judges' Court initially sentenced her to 16 years and 5 months, both the defense and prosecution appealed. The High Court upheld the sentence, stating that the original court did not abuse its discretion in sentencing and rejecting the appeals. The case can still be appealed to the Supreme Court. The tragedy was attributed to the woman's financial distress, marital issues, and mental health struggles, but the court found her fully responsible for the crime.
