New Taipei Teacher Scammed 12 Million by Falling for Facebook Investment Scam

A 43-year-old female teacher surnamed Cai in Sanchong District, New Taipei City, mistakenly believed a scam group posting investment company ads on Facebook and joined a Line investment group, where they promised to help her make money by investing in stocks. Within just one month, she was scammed out of 12 million through a total of 37 transactions via money transfers and face-to-face meetings. The scam group even sent her messages claiming she had won the bids for 134 shares in an IPO. Realizing the scam after consulting with the stock exchange, she reported to the police. The police arrested a man named Lin on fraud charges and are tracing the money flow. This incident highlights the prevalence of investment scams, cautioning the public to be wary of online investment opportunities and to utilize legitimate channels to avoid falling victim to such scams.
