Reported about 1 year ago
New Taipei police reported a zero alcohol-related A1 (on-site or within 24 hours) fatal accident at 2:12 am on June 18, 2024, showcasing significant prevention effects and marking the best result in recent years. Until June 15, 113 years in New Taipei had not seen any alcohol-related A1 traffic accidents, reduced by 3 cases compared to the same period last year (-100%). Additionally, there was a 60% decrease in deaths within 30 days due to drunk driving accidents from January to March, compared to the previous year. The police continue to strengthen law enforcement in areas with high-density dining establishments and susceptible to drunk driving during certain times and locations, implementing spot checks and patrols, as well as tracing the origins and providing guidance to alcohol-serving establishments discouraging drunk driving. Violators aged 41 to 50 accounted for nearly 30% of the total infringements, with the period from 3 pm to 7 pm and 9 pm to late night being most prone to violations. The police have cracked down on 1,713 cases of drunk driving from January to May, with most violations occurring on specific routes in Lujhou District, Xizhi District, Xinzhuang District, and Banqiao District, continuing strict law enforcement to prevent drunk driving. Since the amendment of the Road Traffic Management Penalty Ordinance on June 30th last year, all offenders have their licenses suspended for 2 years with the vehicles impounded and license plates removed on the spot to eliminate drunk driving risks immediately. The recent decrease in drunk driving violations compared to last year indicates a visible deterrent effect. New Taipei police work 24/7 to prevent drunk driving, enhancing law enforcement continuously and ensuring the tracing of drinking establishments, urging businesses to fulfill social responsibility in preventing drunk driving. They encourage the public to use services like designated drivers, calling taxis, or designated driving, emphasizing the importance of not taking the risk of drunk driving at all costs.
