Many young people in Taiwan are facing difficulties in affording housing, partly due to low property holding costs leading to high housing prices. To address this, seven counties and cities in Taiwan have passed amendments to the 'Local Property Tax Regulations' to increase the property hoarding tax rate. Additionally, the Executive Yuan has approved the Ministry of Finance's 'Property Tax Differential Tax Rate 2.0 Plan,' set to be officially implemented on July 1. The plan includes three main changes: non-self-occupied homes will now be subject to national, rather than local, taxation; co-owned properties will be taxed separately per household; and adjustments will be made to the single self-occupied tax reduction policy, with qualifications needing attention.
