A man in New Zealand was fined $600 for belly flopping onto a male orca while swimming with it and its calf. The incident, caught on video, occurred in Davenport, Auckland in February after the man's friends encouraged him to do it. The man's actions were criticized by an investigator from the New Zealand Department of Conservation, who emphasized the irresponsibility and danger of such behavior towards marine mammals, noting that it was a clear breach of the Marine Mammals Protection Act.
