A case in Taichung involved a pregnant woman who was not given a timely C-section despite the presence of meconium in the amniotic fluid, leading to the newborn going into shock upon birth, receiving resuscitation but ultimately dying. While the doctors and hospital were not prosecuted criminally, a civil court found medical negligence and ordered the doctor and hospital to pay over 14 million NT dollars in compensation, sparking criticism within the medical community for the hefty penalty levied despite no criminal charges.
