【News Flash】Displaced Residents Accuse Ko-Jiang of Fraudulent Scheme, Binhai Water Resource Center Facing Land Acquisition Dispute

Reported 8 months ago

Displaced residents strongly criticize former and current mayors of Taipei City, Ko Wen-je (left) and Chiang Wan-an (right), as a fraudulent group. The Taipei City government faces backlash over the plan to build the Binhai Water Resource Regeneration Center, leading to large-scale land acquisition. Many local residents had their land acquired over 30 years ago for road widening, leaving them with significantly smaller properties. Now facing another round of planned acquisition, they fear homelessness. Despite collective protests and administrative lawsuits, the city government proceeds with forceful acquisitions. Started over three years ago by then-mayor Ko Wen-je, the Binhai Water Resource Regeneration Center project near Songshan Airport was met with resident resistance due to rushed procedures. After taking office, Chiang Wan-an decided to continue the project and obtained approval for forced acquisitions from the Ministry of the Interior, aiming for the center to be operational by 2030. Despite plans for a scenic park, allowing people to watch airplanes while lying down, the residents remain infuriated by the city government's actions.
