A U.S. District Court jury ruled that the NFL violated antitrust laws by distributing out-of-market Sunday games through a premium subscription service, awarding $4.7 billion in damages. The league was ordered to pay $4 billion to residential subscribers and $96 million to commercial subscribers who paid for the package from 2011 to 2022. The lawsuit alleged that the league inflated prices and restricted competition by offering 'Sunday Ticket' exclusively through a satellite provider. The NFL plans to appeal the decision, claiming its broadcasting antitrust exemption covers 'Sunday Ticket'.
