Nicaragua Assumes SICA Chair with Allegations of Pushing 'Replace Taiwan with China'

Reported 12 months ago

Nicaragua faces accusations of adding China and Russia-related agendas as it temporarily chairs the Central American Integration System (SICA), in an attempt to replicate the situation with the Central American Bank by proposing 'replace Taiwan with China' to replace Taiwan as an observer. Meanwhile, AIT Director Sun Xiaoya is set to leave office this week, with Foreign Minister Joseph Wu awarding her a 'Special Diplomatic Medal' to acknowledge her efforts in enhancing Taiwan-US relations. Despite a warm farewell, some are turning a blind eye as Nicaragua, previously severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan twice, is questioned for tilting towards China by enhancing ties within SICA, jeopardizing Taiwan's diplomatic position in Central America.
