Nissan Motor will begin producing electric vehicles for its Chinese partner Dongfeng Motor at its Wuhan factory by the end of the year, aiming to reduce costs and increase the operating rate of the factory. The joint venture already manufactures the Ariya EV and X-Trail SUV, with plans to add Dongfeng's new Zhiyin EV. Nissan and Dongfeng have faced challenges in China due to competition from local brands offering affordable, tech-savvy cars, and the surge in Chinese battery-powered vehicles is also affecting their operations in other regions like Southeast Asia and Europe.
